A man has died after being hit by a car near Birmingham’s Jewelery Quarter

A man in his 60s has died and another has been injured after a car plowed into two pedestrians in Birmingham yesterday afternoon (Sunday 21 July).

The incident happened on Great Hampton Street, Hockley, near the Jewelery Quarter, at around 3.45pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it received several 999 calls and sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a critical care car and a trauma doctor and MERIT paramedic to the incident but nothing could be done to save him the most seriously injured man and died at the scene.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “Ambulance crews arrived to find bystanders performing CPR on a male pedestrian. Unfortunately, the ambulance crew could do nothing to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The second pedestrian, a man, was assessed by ambulance staff and treated for minor injuries before being taken to Sandwell Hospital for further checks.

“The driver of the car, a woman, was also assessed and discharged at the scene.”

West Midlands Police are investigating what happened and a spokesman for the force said: “A man in his 60s was treated at the scene but despite the best efforts of the ambulance service he sadly died. Another man was taken to the hospital and treated for a minor. injuries.

“Officers at the scene have spoken to the driver and are assisting with inquiries as we continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the collision.

“As we continue our investigation we are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cams, CCTV or doorbells to come forward.”
