A 30-year-old woman has died after being mauled by a dog in Coventry.

The victim, who has not been named, was attacked at a house on Wexford Road shortly after midday.

Police and paramedics attended following multiple 999 calls and efforts were made to save her, but she died a short time later.

The breed of the dog “has not yet been confirmed” but detectives “do not believe it is a banned breed”, said Chief Inspector David Amos of West Midlands Police.

He added: “We understand this is a distressing and tragic incident and would like to thank the local community for their support and our colleagues in the emergency services who dealt with this incident.

“Our thoughts remain firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who sadly died and they will inform the coroner of her death.”

A full assessment will take place to confirm the dog’s breed.
