Bristol NHS issues warning as Southmead A&E is under ‘intense pressure’

North Bristol NHS Trust has issued a warning as Southmead Hospital’s A&E department is under “intense pressure”. Patients with non-emergency conditions were told to expect long wait times.

The trust also advised people to call 111 if they need urgent medical help but are unsure what to do. Some patients may be referred if there are other services suitable for their needs.




North Bristol NHS Trust said in a post on X at 7.33pm this evening (Monday 22 July): “Our emergency department is currently under pressure.

“If you attend with a non-emergency condition, you may have a long wait or be referred to another service. If you are not sure where to go for medical help, please use NHS 111 and they can advise you.

Euan Booth, an emergency department nurse, added in a video of the post: “Our emergency department is under intense pressure at the moment with a large number of patients in the department. may have a long wait.

“And if there are other services that suit your needs, you may be redirected. If you think you need medical help at this time but are not sure what to do, please use NHS 111 online first.
