Expert advice on how to cut fuel costs amid rising prices

Motorists have been given some useful tips on how to save money on fuel by fuel expert Gordon Wallis from InterFuels. Mr Wallis noted: “With petrol prices now just under 145p per liter and diesel around 150p per litre, drivers have the chance to cut their fuel spend.”

“These prices reflect a slight decrease from the beginning of the month, but the cost of fuel remains substantial. Despite falling for the second consecutive month, fuel prices are still higher than they should be.”

Tips for saving fuel

Fuel cards

Mr Wallis suggested the use of fuel cards to further boost savings. Some fuel cards offer savings on the cost of petrol and diesel, often resulting in paying less than the price shown at the pump.

He explained: “Drivers can typically save around two to three pence per liter off the national average price at the pump. When multiplied across a fleet of company cars and vans or an HGV carrier, this can equate to significant savings each year. The exact savings depend on the card you choose, so it’s important to find the best fuel card to suit your needs.”

Mr Wallis advised: “Fuel economy can be improved by simple measures such as maintaining proper tire pressure and reducing unnecessary weight in the vehicle. By keeping the car load light and making sure the tires are in good condition, drivers can reduce fuel consumption by a noticeable margin. .”
