Balmas returns to Grand Slam Steelers – Sheffield Steelers

The leading point scorer in the elite leagues back in orange

Elite Leagues leading points scorer Mitchell Balmas is returning to Sheffield Steelers next season after signing a new one-year deal which will see the marksman continue his studies at Sheffield Hallam University.

Balmas scored 38 goals and 90 points in just 70 games in his first season with the club, helping the Steelers secure the 2024 Grand Slam.

Head coach Aaron Fox couldn’t have been more pleased, saying: “Anytime you can get your top scorer back in the league, you know it’s an impact signing for the club.

“Balms returns to a university contract with Sheffield Hallam, which helped keep him in orange.

“He’s an elite offensive player who can do it all. Mitch is a very unselfish player who makes the right play and sees the game on a different level. I think what sets him apart is his high character on and off the ice and the respect he gets from his teammates.

“It’s great to have him back and it shows the intent we have for the season ahead”

Balmas confirmed that the decision to return was one agreed some time ago with Aaron Fox

“We sat down and it was pretty easy to come to an agreement,” he said, “it was nice to agree to be early and have the summer knowing where you’re going to play again next season.

“I think it also helped to know how many of the core group would be coming back, I think together we were a special group and it’s good to know the people you’re going to be playing with

“Of course, in the year we’ve had, there will be options, not just for me, but for the whole group, and I think we’ve all decided that the combination of the group, the city, the building and, of course, those crazy fans. it means why wouldn’t you want to go back and try to do it again

“Add to that the CHL, what an experience that will be. As players you want to play against the best and I think we’re not just there to make up numbers, we want to make noise in that competition.”

Mitch has also seen many of the other clubs’ signings this summer and commented “The EIHL is getting better every year, many teams have strengthened and as always we know it will not be a easy game”)
