Tom Meighan performs homecoming gig at ‘Party at the Park’ in Leicester – Review – Pukaar News • Leicester News Agency

Tom Meighan – former frontman of Leicester’s legendary Kasabian, played a solo homecoming show at the weekend in front of hundreds of loyal and wildly enthusiastic fans.

When Mr Meighan took to the stage at Aylestone’s ‘Party in the Park’ on Saturday (July 20), he received a wild reception. The crowd came for a party and he certainly delivered – creating good vibes and crazy, infectious energy from start to finish.

Dressed in a stunning black and gold jacket, he looked every inch the showman – a rock and roll star who was born to be on stage. However, Tom’s appeal is not only in his easy face and the voice that made him famous in Kasabian hey day. He is loved just as much for his down-to-earth nature – his “badass” charisma and villainous charm. For all his successes (and controversies), he is still Leicester through and through, and that was never more evident than on Saturday night when he sang and mocked a 15 song set in the heart of Saffron Lane.

“It’s like a wedding,” he joked, pointing to familiar faces in the audience. “I think I went to school with half of you!”

It was clear that Tom was in his element, feeding off the audience and flying around the stage with lightning energy. There were parts of his performance that were reminiscent of the great Freddie Mercury – the way he commanded the stage with powerful vocals, punches and expert showmanship.

Liam Gallagher’s tenacity also came to the fore at times (as well as plenty of “f-words!”), resulting in an interesting and engaging mix.

Love him or hate him, Tom Meighan is someone you just can’t take your eyes off of – an infectious artist and wild card who couldn’t care less. He gets the job done, and whether you’re put off by the mistakes of his past (for which he’s apologized profusely), you can’t deny that this guy is brilliant—a force of nature that isn’t without its flaws, but one. who is genuine, talented and above all, unapologetic.

During his set on Saturday, he was joined on stage by a single acoustic guitarist, and yet not once did the performance feel empty or fall flat in any way. Tom filled the stage with his huge energy and personality. “Big Tom” I call him (although I’m pretty sure that’s not literal)… He’s a Leicester legend – a local boy who made good and one who never forgot his roots.

This is Tom as we’ve never seen him before – raw, stripped down, solo and completely unstoppable.

He performed a medley of songs including songs from his solo album ‘The Reckoning’ as well as his upcoming effort ‘Roadrunner’ which is set for release on September 13th.

These were sandwiched between ‘Clubfoot’ and ‘Fire’ – two of Kasabian’s biggest hits. By the end of the show, Tom had really set the stage on fire, with the crowd begging for an encore. However, it was one he was unable to deliver due to licensing restrictions.

The good news is you can catch him at the O2 Academy in Leicester when he visits as part of his Raw ’24 tour on December 21.
