New skyscrapers are set to transform Birmingham’s skyline by the end of the year

Birmingham is a city in a constant state of flux. Walking around the city center, it is impossible to miss the cranes and construction sites that occupy almost every corner of the city.

There are several huge, multi-million pound projects underway that will soon transform the city’s skyline. The Octagon, part of the Paradise development, will be completed in 2025 – with many other exciting developments coming up in the coming years.

But there are also a number of other ongoing projects that are expected to be completed before the end of the year. Here are four of our city’s most eye-catching projects to be completed before the end of 2024.

The Square is a new 35-storey development located at the northern end of Birmingham’s Broad Street. It consists of two residential buildings – a 35-storey high-rise residential tower facing Broad Street and a six-storey building on Ryland Street.

Planning permission was granted in October 2020, with developers Corstorphine & Wright hoping to complete the project in 2024. The development comprises two residential buildings and a hotel, all centered around a large south-facing courtyard.

The Cortland website describes the development as a “relaxing paradise in the heart of the city.” It adds: “Situated minutes from Arena Central, the canalside playground of Brindleyplace and all the best that city life has to offer.

“Direct access to the Westside Metro right on your doorstep makes traveling to the wider city and beyond a breeze.”
