Do Not Eat Warning issued for sandwiches, wraps and baguettes

Shoppers are being warned not to eat an array of sandwiches, wraps and baguettes for fear they could cause illness. Bread Spread recalls all chilled and ready-to-eat foods.

Concerns have been raised that the products may contain Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause flu-like symptoms. This includes fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea.




In rare cases, an infection called listeriosis can develop which could lead to more serious complications such as meningitis. The products are sold under a number of brand names – Bread Spread, Orbital and Perfect Bite.

All pack sizes and products with a use-by date of May 18 of this year are affected. The Food Standards Agency said: “Bread Spread is recalling various chilled ready-to-eat foods as Listeria monocytogenes has been found in some of the products.

“Symptoms caused by this organism can be flu-like and include high temperature, muscle aches or pains, chills, feeling or being sick, and diarrhea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis. .

“Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old, and people with weakened immune systems. If you have bought the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
