Manchester United have discussed Ivan Toney internally

Manchester United have discussed the possibility of signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney domestically, but it remains to be seen whether a formal offer will be made.

The Reds are considering a swoop for Toney as Brentford slash their asking price to £50m, according to The Athletic.

Brentford do not appear to be under any pressure to sell the striker, even though his contract expires next year.

Last summer, Toney was valued at between £80m and £100m.

A betting ban has come as a significant blow and has a huge impact on the player’s market value.

The England international has been tipped as a useful option for United, who have two striker options in the squad going into the new season in Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

There is still room for a third striker in the squad. Toney’s experience could benefit the likes of Hojlund and Zirkzee, but the team would also score more goals as a result.

The 28-year-old has been linked with moves to other clubs over the past year, but it looks like he could be stuck at Brentford for an extra year.

Toney won’t like how those links have gotten quieter lately.
