Leeds United are said to have stepped up their interest in signing last season’s top scorer, Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics.

The Whites will be looking at new signings as they bid to get out of the Championship at the second time of asking, including a look at revamping their attack.

Replacements for the outgoing wide men certainly mean Daniel Farke will need a new signing or two to add goals to his attack.

Leeds ‘formalise’ interest in Sammie Szmodics from Blackburn Rovers

TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has revealed that Leeds are now continuing their interest in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Sammie Szmodics.

The 28-year-old is likely to leave Ewood Park this summer due to winning the league’s golden boot award last season for 27 Championship goals, along with four assists – including a winner at Elland Road in April.

Do Leeds have the best full-back pairing in the league?

Ipswich Town have already seen a bid of around £6m rejected by Rovers as they are reportedly eyeing a deal closer to £20m – per EADT.

Szmodics turns 29 in September, and his rebound from last season made up nearly 30 percent of his career goals from 2013.

Szmodics is a Joel Piroe 2.0 for Leeds

As good as his goal return was last season, Szmodics should be a big red flag for Leeds as it took him until he was 28 to find consistency in front of goal.

Furthermore, all his goals have come against a team that doesn’t play against the small blocks every week, such as Leeds, so it will be a shock at Elland Road if he were to join.

The contrast between playing for a team that would be relegated without him and a team waiting for promotion is massive.

This would not be a worthwhile signing for Leeds at the rates being talked about, just as Joel Piroe proved to be a poor fit.
