Gillingham sign striker Marcus Wyllie from Enfield Town – Home of Irish Football

Gillingham have completed the signing of 25-year-old striker Marcus Wyllie from Enfield Town.

Wyllie, who played a part in Enfield Town’s promotion to the National League South last season, has scored 34 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.

Enfield’s successful campaign saw them triumph over Wingate and Finchley in the play-off semi-finals before claiming victory against Chatham Town in the final at the Bauvill Stadium.

“I’m really excited to be here; it all happened so fast and I’m still processing it,” commented Wyllie.

“This is what I’ve always wanted and I’m excited to finally have the chance to do it.”

Kenny Jackett, Gillingham’s director of football, underlined the significance of the signing, saying: “This is a really significant signing for us. As a community club we have a responsibility to scout the different leagues and recruit players who we believe have good quality. future and can add depth to our team.”

Jackett added: “We did our due diligence on Marcus. He is a strong, hard-working lad who has had a prolific season with Enfield Town and I have no doubt that he is the type of player Gillingham fans will enjoy watching.”

Outlining the club’s recruitment strategy, Jackett said: “Our recruitment team works very hard to identify talent from our region who have the ability to play at our level and potentially even higher. We give players the opportunity to show what they can do. and we will continue to work hard to add quality to our existing setup.”
