Police detain ‘paralyzed drunk’ lorry driver after series of collisions

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following reports of a number of collisions in Stafford. Staffordshire Police were called to Lichfield Road on Monday night (July 22) following reports of an HGV being involved in a series of collisions.

The force’s road policing unit said the driver refused to provide a breath sample at the scene.

A photo of the truck surrounded by police cars was shared on the units’ Twitter account on Monday evening, alongside a post which read: ‘Reports of multiple RTCs with this HGV at fault @PoliceStafford. Intercepted and the drunk driver paralyzed”.

The post continued: β€œHe refused to provide a breath sample on the side of the road and is now on his way to the cells. We will be looking to arrest him before the courts tomorrow morning,” reports Birmingham Live.
