A SALISBURY carer has been shortlisted as a finalist for a BBC Radio Wiltshire award for improving the lives of those she cares for.

Gale Louw, carer and activities co-ordinator at Milford House Care Home in Salisbury, has been recognized for the help, compassion and support she shows to her residents and has now reached the grand final of the BBC Radio Wiltshire Make a Difference Awards in the Category the caretaker.

The station received hundreds of nominations in eight categories, from which a panel of independent judges selected the four finalists for each category.

Gale received a visit from BBC Radio Wiltshire’s Graham Rogers, who conducted an interview with Gale to appear on radio in August, and also filmed a short video for the awards ceremony.

Managing director at the care home, Aga Musial, said: “This is such a great achievement and very well deserved and we are so pleased that what Gale does has been recognized by the wider community and of course we will all be supporting Gale . in the night.”

Gale said: “It was such a big surprise and it took me a while to process what Graham was telling me about the nomination when he called to tell me the news!

“I’m very grateful to everyone who nominated me and I’m now looking forward to the ceremony in September.”

The awards ceremony will take place on September 7 and a spokesman for Milford House says everyone will be cheering Gale on and a small house team will support her on the night.

Milford House is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to providing high quality care in its homes and hospitals.

Milford House provides medical, residential and respite care.
