Liverpool star “leaks” Mohamed Salah’s transfer plan and Virgil van Dijk confirms the decision

Liverpool only have a few days left on the training grounds before they return to action. Arne Slot will make his head coaching debut when the Reds take on Real Betis at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

While the squad have already left for the United States to step up their pre-season preparations, Liverpool continue to be heavily linked with some big names. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold face increasingly uncertain futures at Anfield.

The Liverpool star has leaked Salah’s plan

Wataru Endo has revealed that Liverpool are looking for a replacement for Mohamed Salah, suggesting the 32-year-old winger could leave Anfield this summer. Speaking to Japanese broadcaster ABEMA Sports Time, the Reds midfielder was asked numerous questions about his career and private life.

Endo was then asked who he would sign from the national team for Liverpool. After much deliberation, he named Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad – which raised eyebrows in the studio.

Endo added: “The search for a replacement for Mohamed Salah has started, so this is becoming a real area for Liverpool to strengthen. I think the player who can replace him, in the national team, would be Kubo.”

Van Dijk makes the exit decision

According to HITC, Virgil van Dijk has confirmed to Liverpool superiors that he wants to sign a new contract with the club. The 33-year-old defender, who has recently been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, sees his current deal in Merseyside expire in June 2025.

The report states that the Reds will now look to tie Van Dijk down to an extension before the end of the year. This comes as a huge boost for Arne Slot, who HITC claim has made it clear to the club that he wants the Netherlands international to stay.

Van Dijk has played 270 times for Liverpool since joining from Southampton in January 2018, winning the Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and two Carabao Cups.
