Exciting range of activities this summer at the local leisure centre

Wiltshire Council’s leisure centers are offering a range of activities inspired by the upcoming Summer Olympics, designed to bring the excitement and energy of the Games to local communities.

Whether you’re an aspiring athlete or just looking for some summer fun, there’s a variety of activities to capture the spirit of the Games.

Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, said: We are keen to encourage people to lead healthy and active lifestyles and provide sporting opportunities for our communities.

Our state-of-the-art facilities, professional staff and diverse range of programs provide the perfect environment for individuals and families to embrace the Olympic spirit and get involved in some of our activities, whether they’re trying a whole new sport or looking to perfect something they’re into already involved.

Swimming for gold

Intensive swimming lessons are available at Bradford on Avon Swimming Pool, Calne Community Campus, Devizes Leisure Centre, Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Center in Salisbury, Lime Kiln Leisure Centre, Olympia in Chippenham, Melksham Community Campus, Trowbridge Sports Center and Warminster Sports Center .

Students will receive one lesson a day over the course of a week to help them gain confidence, learn key skills and have fun in the water. Classes are an ideal way to introduce children to swimming or those already on the council’s swim school programme. Inspired by Olympic champions, the board’s experienced instructors provide personalized coaching to help swimmers reach their full potential.

Master the perfect entrance

Trowbridge Sports Center offers diving lessons for budding Tom Daley divers looking to learn or improve their take-off, execution and entry. Classes are open to children who are over eight years old and have completed at least 90% of Swim England stage five. Participants must be confident in deep water and able to power swim 25 meters.

Children’s lessons will be held on Wednesday 31st July, Thursday 1st August and Friday 9th August, and a diving lesson for adults on Thursday 8th August. Session places are limited and can be booked on 01225 764342.

Jump to the Olympic heights

Intensive trampoline and gymnastics classes are available at the Lime Kiln Leisure Center for children looking to improve their pikes, twists, arabesques and turns. Suitable for children aged four and over who are in full-time education, the courses are ideal for beginners or those who want to work on the skills learned in the regular weekly course.

Four and five day courses are available throughout the summer and can be booked on 01793 852197 or in the centre.

Team up for Glory

Visit the Nadder Center in Tisbury for a variety of group activities and fun sessions where participants can compete in events such as dodgeball, soccer, racquet sports, track and foam dart wars. These fun and engaging activities are open to children aged five to 11, encouraging everyone to push their limits, learn teamwork and create fun memories.

And the rest…

With 20 leisure centers in Wiltshire, a variety of other Olympic sports such as basketball, football, tennis, badminton, table tennis and rock climbing can be booked on request.
