A quaint teahouse just two hours away from Manchester looks ‘straight out of a fairy tale’.

Set in beautiful gardens offering idyllic views of the Conwy Valley is one of North Wales’ most acclaimed tea rooms – Tu Hwnt I’r Bont.

Positioned in the picturesque town of Llanrwst on the edge of Snowdonia, its name, ‘Beyond the Bridge’, aligns with its location next to the historic Inigo Jones Bridge. This Grade II listed building was built in 1840 and has served many purposes, from a courthouse to a National Trust property, which they have leased for over half a century.

Years ago, it was beautifully transformed into the delightful Tu Hwnt I’r Bont teahouse, solidifying its status as a must-see attraction. I remember visiting him while on holiday in Conwy with friends.

It takes between ninety minutes and two hours to drive from Liverpool, reports the Liverpool Echo.

At the car park behind the tea room we were eager to explore the Inigo Jones Bridge and enjoy all the scenic beauty it had to offer. To me, the chocolate box style building looked straight out of a fairy tale.

The exterior is lovingly draped in a sheet of Virginia Creeper, a sight I have never witnessed before. Watching the traffic, we nestled into one of the alcoves of the bridge to capture what we thought would be the perfect shot.

During spring and summer, the foliage has a rich green hue. However, as we move into the colder months, it turns an extravagant, autumnal red, giving us another reason to plan our next visit.

You can also head to the other side of the bridge for another view of the tea room. During our visit, we saw several photographers capturing the postcard scene.

Tim Maddox, who previously operated the site, last year described the tearoom to North Wales Live as “the most photographed building in Wales”.

The landmark has attracted a lot of attention over the years for its beauty and in 2014 it also featured in an edition of The Beano.

If you approach the teahouse, you can see the tiny white wooden windows peeking through the leaves. We poked our heads in and felt like we were back in time.

The tea room is decorated with old fashioned trinkets and has a low ceiling where you can see the details of the exposed wooden beams. Unfortunately we didn’t have long to stop so we sat outside and had a coffee but I was envious of everyone eating around us.

The menu has plenty to choose from and also offers a Welsh High Tea which can be upgraded to include prosecco.

You can also indulge in a range of sandwiches, jacket potatoes and sweets, as well as homemade Welsh rarebit and Bara brith. For me, Tu Hwnt I’r Bont is a destination in itself, but there is also a lot to see nearby.

Visitors can explore the market town of Llanrwst or take a short drive to Rhaeadr Y Parc Mawr, known as the Gray Mares Tail waterfall. However, we chose to spend our time in North Wales visiting the nearby village of Betws-y-Coed, which is definitely worth exploring.

All year round, Scousers are drawn to North Wales because of its proximity and the wealth of attractions it offers, from scenic walks to charming villages full of local businesses. I would highly recommend adding a visit to Tu Hwnt I’r Bont to your itinerary.
