Prince William takes on new patronages as Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall

The Prince of Wales has become a patron of several organizations related to his roles as Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall.

A statement from Kensington Palace confirmed that William is now patron of the Welsh Guards Charity, the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association and president of the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association.

Welsh Guards Charity supports all Welsh Guards – retired and active – and their families through avenues including financial support, grants for adventure training and sport and preserving the Guards’ legacy.

William has been Colonel of the Welsh Guards since 2022, succeeding his father who served as Colonel of the Welsh Guards between 1975 and his accession in 2022.

The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association promotes Cornwall’s agricultural industry and organizes the annual Royal Cornwall Show. Before William, King Charles served as patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Society between 2003 and his accession in 2022.

The Victoria Cross and George Cross Association is the representative arm of all living recipients of the Victoria Cross – awarded for gallantry to members of the armed forces – and the George Cross – awarded for great heroism or conspicuous bravery.

Queen Elizabeth II was Patron of the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association from 1957 until her death in 2022. King Charles was President of the Association between 2003 and his accession in 2022.

The Palace also announced that the previously held chairmanships — the Football Association and Fields in Trust — will now become patronage appointments.

Kensington Palace noted that William is “committed to using its platform to improve the lives of others” by supporting organizations and charities that focus on “conservation and the environment, homelessness, the military, sports and the emergency services community.”
