Soccer Adds Christina Wakefield to Coaching Staff – Auburn Tigers

AUBURN, Ala. — Christina Wakefield, a former standout student-athlete at Boston University and current assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin University, has joined the Auburn soccer team as an assistant coach, head coach Karen Hoppa announced Tuesday.

“We are very excited to add Christina to our staff,” said Hoppa. “In my opinion, he is one of the best young up-and-coming coaches in the country. She has such a bright future ahead of her. I can’t wait to see what positive impact she will have on our team.”

Wakefield joins the Tigers after spending the last two seasons at SFA, where he focused on the team’s attacking players. Prior to working with the Ladyjacks, she served as a graduate assistant coach at Auburn during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

“I’m extremely excited to be back in The Plains,” Wakefield said. “Thank you to Coach Hoppa and her staff for this opportunity. Auburn has an incredible football tradition and I look forward to continuing that success. I am excited to return to a community, a university and a football program that has given me so much. I can’t wait to get to work this season.”

After graduating from Boston in 2018, Wakefield began his coaching journey at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania as an assistant coach in the strength and conditioning department as well as the football program.

During his playing career as a Terrier, Wakefield scored 10 goals, five of which came as match-winners, and assisted a further seven in 73 appearances. She was named All-Patriot League in 2015 and 2017, as well as Boston’s Offensive MVP this past season.

Wakefield replaces former Tigers assistant Nick Flohre, who resigned to pursue other opportunities outside of collegiate coaching.
