The world premiere of A Knight’s Tale The Musical opens in Manchester next year

A brand new stage adaptation of a beloved film from the early 00s will have its world premiere right here in Manchester.

This is correct – a knight’s story was turned into a comedy musical.

A Knight’s Tale may be one of Chaucer’s best-known Canterbury Tales, but for most of us, we tend to be more familiar with Brian Helgeland’s iconic 2001 medieval action comedy. movie of the same name instead, which of course starred the late great Heath Ledger alongside Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, Mark Addy and others.

And the latter has now been reimagined for the modern day and turned into a brand new comedy musical, which will load in Manchester early next year.

From output the team behind recent smash hits including Disney’s Newsiesand 2:22 A ghost storythe brand new one A Knight’s Tale The Musical was adapted for the stage by Irish writer and actor Brona C Titley, directed by award-winning Rachel Kavanaugh and choreographed by Olivier Award-winning Matt Cole.

It’s set to be a “shattering tale of chivalry, justice, heroes and villains.”

Not only that, but just like the popular film, Manchester audiences are told to expect a “really rock soundtrack” that’s full of chart-topping hits.

Not familiar with the premise of the cult-classic film? Ledger plays William Thatcher – a 14th century peasant squire who breaks all the rules when he masquerades as a noble and takes the gaming world by storm. The only thing standing between Will and his dream of becoming the World Champion of the most extreme sport, however, is the bad boy of the sport Count Adhemar.

The two rivals then go head-to-head in the world finals, and it’s a pretty epic ending, to say the least.

Just like in the movie, A Knight’s Tale The Musical apparently he ‘has it all’ so you’re invited to join Will Thatcher and his band of merry misfits for ‘a knight like no other’ when show leads to legendary Manchester Opera House stage in April next year.

“Over 20 years ago, I had the time of my life surrounded by an ultimate cast and crew making a movie we all fell in love with while happily making it,” commented Brian Helgeland before of the musical debut in Manchester.

“So at a recent reading of the stage version, I felt the same joy and love welling up, and I’m grateful for the new life it creates and very eager to see it in all its fully staged glory.”
