M40 traffic live as long delays reported after crash

Motorists are facing long delays on the M40 in Warwickshire this morning after an early morning crash. One lane is still closed in both directions and seven miles of congestion are reported.

According to travel website Inrix, a vehicle crashed overnight in the central reservation and emergency repairs are needed to the barriers. People are advised to find alternative routes if possible.




Lane three in both directions is closed. The accident happened between junction 12 for the B4451 Gaydon Road and junction 11 for the A22 to Banbury.

Traffic is currently backed up seven miles southbound as well as on the A423 Southam Road towards Banbury.


A spokesman for National Highways West Midlands said the crash happened in the early hours of this morning. The M40 was blocked southbound, with two lanes closed northbound between Junction 12 and Junction 11.

60 minute delays

Recent update from National Highways says: “2 lanes remain closed southbound on the #M40 in #Warwickshire between J12 #Gaydon and J11 #Banbury and 1 lane northbound for barrier repairs following a collision. Southbound delays are approximately 60 minutes per 5 miles. of agglomeration.”
