UK’s twin-city airport to get huge £100m makeover | Great Britain | News

A UK airport is undergoing a huge £100m development which will improve the passenger experience while benefiting the local area.

Construction work at Leeds Bradford Airport in West Yorkshire began in April, with the aim of regenerating the terminal and transforming it into a modern travel hub.

The project will provide the airport with a 9,500 square meter, three-storey extension to its terminal, as well as other developments.

These include additional aircraft stands, more seats, faster security, new shops and restaurants, a larger baggage claim area and immigration hall and improved access for passengers with reduced mobility, the Telegraph and Argus reported in June.

Farrans Construction is overseeing the first phase of the development, which involves building a new facility for the UK Border Force.

They will also develop more retail space, a departure lounge and a baggage claim area.

The project will be completed by 2026.

Dudleys Consulting Engineers was called in to advise on civil and structural engineering matters for the project.

Last year, Andy Walker, Managing Director at Dudleys, said: “As a long-standing and trusted adviser to Leeds Bradford Airport, we are delighted to see plans progressing for the long-awaited improvements to the terminal building.

“Having advised LBA for many years, our historical knowledge of previous plans and experience of site constraints proved invaluable in helping LBA and its team meet the many challenges of this highly publicized project.”
