Nottingham Forest fans all have a message for the club after seeing Nicolas Dominguez in the Millwall friendly

Nottingham Forest midfielder Nicolas Dominguez was given another chance to claim a place in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad last night.

The man signed from Bologna for £8.5m last summer enjoyed a fairly successful first campaign playing Premier League football.

He scored three goals – including one against Manchester United at the City Ground – and claimed two assists in his 29 appearances in all competitions.

Last night Forest played Millwall in a pre-season friendly at the Arena Pinatar in Spain and won 2-1 against the Championship side.

Neil Harris admitted Forest coped with the Spanish heat better than his side and Dominguez was in fine form in the first half.

He set up Chris Wood to open the scoring in the first half and looked comfortable playing in midfield alongside Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare.

After seeing him pull the strings last night, Forest fans are adamant about Dominguez and what the club should do with him.

Forest fans united for the future of Nicolas Dominguez

Dominguez only played 45 minutes of the game against Millwall last night, with Espirito Santo keen to get minutes into the players ahead of the new season.

It has been claimed in some quarters that the player could be sold this summer, with Galatasaray one of the clubs monitoring Dominguez.

During the game, however, many turned to X to express that Dominguez simply needs to stay on Trentside this season.

One fan wrote: “Dominguez, what a boy!”

There was even more praise for the midfielder, with one fan adding: “Why is everyone talking about selling Dominguez? Where did that story come from?”

A Forest podcast also raved about Dominguez, saying: “Chris Wood with goal assisted by Nico Dominguez or called ‘Latino Lansbury’ by @growupdan.”

Finally, another fan said: “Nico has been doing a few of them late pit runs this pre-season. I like the look of it. Great ball from MGW too.”

What Michael Dawson said about Nicolas Dominguez

‘Daws’ is a legend to Forest fans of a certain age and currently works on Soccer Saturday at weekends.

In March, Dawson praised Dominguez after Forest lost 1-0 to Liverpool at the City Ground.

He said, “It’s Dominguez and he had to go. Danilo came. He played very well for Forest, Dominguez, but it looks like a dead leg or a hamstring. He’s hard to get.”

Shay Given also praised Dominguez in February and it clearly looks like he could be a really useful asset for Forest during the 2024/25 campaign.

Dominguez has a role to play at Forest

The competition for midfield places at the City Ground is fierce and Dominguez certainly has a role to play.

He will be competing for a spot with Sangare, Danilo and Ryan Yates this season and certainly has something about him that is different from those three players.

In the pre-season so far, he has featured more often in the final third and maybe that is something Espirito Santo need to look at.

Forest have a number of players they could do with a move on before the window closes next month – but Dominguez is not one of them!
