Drivers have been urged to use potatoes on their cars for ‘life-saving’ reasons.

The UK has enjoyed a week of glorious sunshine and blistering temperatures, but it never lasts and more rain is in the forecast soon.

So drivers could do worse than brace themselves for more wet weather in the coming days. The sudden transition from sun and heat to rain can catch drivers off guard.

However, a YouTuber known as Simple and Fast has shared a fascinating trick for driving in heavy rain. The unusual tip involves using a halved potato on your car windows, the Express reports.

To start, cut a potato in half and use the exposed inside to rub the windshield, almost as if you were cleaning it with the potato. Once done, your windshield should become water resistant.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of this trick, she used masking tape to split the windshield into two sections, applying the potato only to the left side before throwing a bowl of water over the car. She then pointed out, “As you can see, the right side has drops on it, while the left side has none. This is ideal for days when it’s raining heavily and you know the windows are fogging up.”
