It’s all happening for Manchester Day 2024

Manchester Day returns in 2024 this weekend and the city center is set to become the ‘biggest playground ever’ to celebrate.

I like you to put sport talents to the test? Going on some vintage fairground rides? Do you watch street theater? Or entertained by a flash mob? Well, now that schools are officially out everywhere regionand summer is well and truly here, very popular Manchester Day returns once again this weekend and, as always, it will be “the day summer officially starts” downtown.

Set to be a massive celebration of ‘all things Mancunian’, the theme for this year’s annual event is ‘Let the Games Begin’.

It is inspired by the international summer of sports, only 2024 olympics begins in Paris.

The day will be full of leisure event and ACTIVITY for all family to get involved.

But what exactly can you expect from Manchester Day 2024? Where does all the action take place? What show-stopping entertainment is on the cards? What activities can you hope to get stuck into? And what about food and drink?

Here’s everything you need to know.

When is Manchester Day 2024?

If you’re ready to kick off your summer in style, then this year’s Manchester Day takes place on Saturday 27th July.

As it has done in previous years, Manchester City Council works with outdoor arts specialists Walk the plank in a packed program that promises something for everyone, and the streets and squares of the city will be full of the musicdance and interactive activities designed to “bring out the inner athlete” in visitors young and old.

Where is Manchester Day taking place this year?

Following the resounding success of last year’s ‘promenade-style’ event, which saw activities in a number of different locations, the Council has revealed that this year’s Manchester Day will also take over the whole downtown.

With a range of festivities set to start from midday and run until 6pm, attractions will be dotted across major social hubs such as Deansgate, Piccadilly Gardens, St Peter’s Square, Market Street and more.

Exchange Square, St Ann’s Square, Cathedral Gardens and New Cathedral Street are some other places where there will be plenty of action.

What’s in the entertainment lineup this year? What FREE activities can you participate in?

Visitors can expect to see jaw-dropping acrobatics, pop-up wrestling shows, breakdancing, opera, drag and more in ‘the most unlikely of places’ and a daring circus dance production, all while getting stuck in various games like darts, hook-a-duck, or even “real reality” arcades filled with larger-than-life consoles.

The streets will also be full of big screens showing sports, flash mobs, a vintage fair with lots of retro rides, street. theater shows and even a Capri-style beach club.

The council has also partnered with some of the UK’s leading sporting bodies to deliver a host of fitness taster sessions and activities throughout the day.

Football, cricket, netball and taekwondo are just some of the sports you can try.

Gold medals will be awarded in a special “Winners” building throughout the day, and honors will be up for grabs in all sorts of categories, including things like biggest grin, best dad dancer and more.

What does the Council say?

Councilor Pat Karney, who is chair of Manchester Day, said this year’s event is quite “sensational” in terms of what is lined up.

β€œWe have gone all out to make Manchester’s favorite day of the year a medal-winning Manchester day to remember,” added Cllr Karney. β€œWe’re all in, we’re going for the gold with a fantastic schedule full of free things to see and do, and enough different activities to bring out the inner athlete in everyone.

“We can’t wait to see everyone there, so come on down and show us what you’re made of.”

Manchester Day 2024: Let the games begin! will take over the city center on Saturday 27th July from 12pm to 6pm.
