Newham resident receives British Citizen Medal of Honour

East Londoner Trevor Adams is among 26 exceptional people to be honored with the prestigious British Citizen Award (BCA) at the Palace of Westminster. This recognition celebrates their outstanding contributions to society.

The medal presentation, set for Thursday 25 July 2024, will see Trevor receive the coveted BCA Medal of Honor for Services to the Community (BCAc). Recipients are entitled to use post-nominals commemorating their achievements.

Trevor has volunteered for the Police Cadets and Metropolitan Police in the London Borough of Newham for over ten years, helping local young people in a deprived inner city location. Trevor’s commitment has led to the growth of the Volunteer Police Cadet, which now has over 500 cadets enrolled in the programme, the largest group of cadets not only in London but across the UK.

Volunteer Police Cadets are groups of young people who meet with police officers to learn about new policing skills which help build confidence, teamwork and leadership skills. These young people go on to take part in police operations and crime prevention initiatives and become community champions. Trevor’s is an astonishing achievement given the level of pressure on the youth crime scene and gang activity in Newham.

Trevor also volunteers as Honorary Chair of local ward group meetings, where groups of residents, businesses and partners, including councillors, poll the local Police Safer Neighborhood, East Ham South team to set local ward priorities . Over the past 10 years, Trevor has helped hundreds of young people and has been a constant with his voluntary involvement in the community and a great asset to the volunteer police cadets.

Stephanie Wood from BCA Partner One Stop commented: “This year’s medalists exemplify the incredible support within our communities, particularly during difficult times. We are honored to partner with BCA and play a role in recognizing these exceptional individuals.”

The presentation, hosted by TV presenter Matt Allwright, will feature Dame Mary Perkins, founder of Specsavers, patrons of the BCA, and The Rt Hon Lord Dholakia. Following the ceremony, medalists will enjoy an Open Top Lap of Honor and a certificate presentation at another distinguished venue in Westminster.
