Man arrested after electric bike stolen in Upton – Birkenhead News

Merseyside Police have arrested a man and seized a suspected stolen e-bike following a robbery in Wirral last night, Tuesday 23 July.

At around 9.50pm, a man in his 20s was on his e-bike outside the Eagle and Crown pub on Ford Road, Upton, when he was allegedly approached by a man. Threats were made and the bike was stolen.

Vehicle tracker inquiries followed the e-bike to Scoresby Road in Leasowe and a man was apprehended nearby.

A 24-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of cannabis. He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “This would have been a distressing incident for the victim and any witnesses, so we are pleased to have made a quick arrest and recovered the bike.

“However, our inquiries are ongoing so I would like to appeal to anyone who has not yet come forward to do so as any information, images or footage could still be extremely helpful to this investigation.

“Furthermore, we hope that the knowledge that this bike has been equipped with a tracker will serve two purposes. Primarily as a strong deterrent to anyone who would consider attempting to steal such a vehicle. Secondly, to remind owners to ensure they have a level of security commensurate with the value of their bike.”
