Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 – What to Expect?

Royal Enfield’s 650 cc bikes based on the P platform have seen great success in India and global markets. The latest motorcycle based on the 650 cc platform will be the Royal Enfield Scrambler 650. Reports suggest that it might be called the Interceptor Bear 650. Although that is yet to be confirmed, here is everything you should know about the Scrambler 650.

Design

The styling of the Scrambler 650 is largely similar to that of the Interceptor 650. Changes include a new single bar handlebar, stepped seat and a new two-into-one exhaust system. Even the rear of the chassis has been tweaked to match the bike’s scrambler design philosophy. Other changes include a USD fork up front and a larger front wheel.

Characteristics

The Scrambler 650 is expected to be decently loaded with features. It is likely to get an LED headlight, dual-channel ABS and a TFT instrument cluster with Google Maps. The latter is probably the same as the one on the Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450. Lower variants might get a semi-digital instrument cluster with a Tripper navigation bridge.

Engine specifications

The Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 will be powered by the same 648cc parallel twin engine that also powers the Interceptor 650 and Super Meteor 650. This engine churns out 46.3 PS at 7,250 rpm and 52.3 Nm of peak torque at 5,650 rpm. The engine will be connected to a six-speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch.

Cycle parts

Suspension duties will be handled by inverted front forks and double coil springs at the rear. Similar to the recent Royal Enfield bikes, we expect the suspension to be tuned by Showa. Meanwhile, the anchor loads will be carried out by disc brakes at both ends.

The Scrambler 650 is likely to ride on a 19-inch spoked wheel at the front and an 18-inch spoked wheel at the rear. The spy shots revealed that the wheels will be wrapped in block-pattern MRF Nylorex-X tires, which look similar in design to the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR.

Release details and pricing

The Royal Enfield Scrambler 650 is likely to be launched in India at Motoverse 2024 in November. It is expected to be positioned between the Interceptor 650 and the Super Meteor 650 and is likely to be priced around Rs. 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 650 scrambler.
