Team news, preview lineup and how to watch

Rangers fans are traveling in their thousands to England as Philippe Clement looks to start pre-season with a positive performance.

The Blues have struggled in front of goal so far and will be hoping to find the finishing touches against a team that is, on paper, the easiest of the fixtures that have been lined up for the pre-season schedule.

With Ibrox still under construction, fans have been restricted in terms of seeing the ‘new’ Rangers team in person, but will be hoping to see something better than what was served up at Murrayfield.

Rangers pre-season results and verdict so far

With three official games played so far, here’s how they went:

This game is more than just a friendly, both sides pay tribute to the late, great Trevor Francis who sadly passed away last year.

A city legend, Francis also donned the blue of Rangers during Graeme Souness’s tenure as manager.

Oh, to have a squad as crowded as the man who revived the club so famously.

Philippe Clement does not want to take it easy in the pre-season

Speaking ahead of the clash with Man Utd, the manager explained his thinking behind the fixtures that were chosen:

“We picked a lot of difficult games, we didn’t want to have a preparation where we were the kings of the preparation and then you are surprised when you play the first league games.

“They all had to be really big tests at the right times and that’s the way to grow. If you make mistakes against this type of opponents, you pay, but we can learn from this not to make these mistakes in the future. It’s so important to have really good games, strong games, where the team is challenged in every way.

“We have to grow week by week. We have to get better. It happened that the Standard game was better than the Hamilton game and the Ajax game was better than the Standard game and I want us to take the next step in that way.”

At least Rangers created chances and looked relatively solid at the back.

All the Gers boss needs to do now is sort out individual errors, concentration issues and completing the forward line – is that too much to ask?
