Brenden Aaronson is feeling ‘confident’ ahead of the season at Leeds United

Brenden Aaronson’s last competitive spell with English club Leeds United saw the historic club relegated from the English Premier League, but after spending a season on loan in Germany, the American striker is focused on a new opportunity at Elland Road.

Aaronson is back with the Lilywhites ahead of the start of the 2024–25 EFL Championship season. The 23-year-old recently scored once in Leeds United’s 4-1 win over Hannover this week, painting a positive picture of his long-term potential for the upcoming campaign.

After enduring some frustrating moments in his first season in West Yorkshire, Aaronson joined Union Berlin on loan with the hope of playing regularly. He scored two goals in 30 appearances for the Bundesliga side, helping them fight off relegation from the German top flight.

Now, with the Lilywhites aiming to win promotion back to the Premier League, Aaronson is looking for a smooth transition to life back in England and has already enjoyed some positive moments this summer.

“I feel really sharp, I feel really confident, I feel like I fit in really well with the system with the boys,” Aaronson said in an interview with Leeds Live. “I know most of the boys, we are very close and we have a good relationship.

“So I think it’s really great to come back and see the boys and I think I was smiling the whole time and I was really excited to be back,” he added. “I mean, from the first days I got here, I said it’s so professional, it’s super high standards, and I really liked that, you know, because I think that’s what makes this team.”

Aaronson and his Leeds United teammates have a final pre-season friendly on August 3 against Valencia before opening their league schedule on August 10 against newly promoted Portsmouth.

A strong start to the season would do wonders for Aaronson’s confidence as he battles to be part of Leeds United’s long-term plans.
