Construction underway for 84 more affordable rental homes

Work has started on a project led by Ealing Council which will provide 92 new affordable homes in Northolt and help tackle the borough’s worsening housing crisis.

84 of the homes will be rented at London Affordable Rent, which is priced to suit the budgets of local residents on low incomes. Those homes will be rented to some of the almost 8,000 families currently on the council’s housing waiting list.

The development, which is situated on the site of the old Northolt Grange Community Centre, also includes 8 properties in shared ownership. This is a scheme designed to support would-be home owners who cannot afford to buy a home on the open market by allowing them to buy a share of a home and pay rent for the remaining share.

Truly affordable new homes

The homes at Northolt Grange are expected to be ready for their new occupants to move into from spring 2026. The homes are being built with the support of the Greater London Authority (GLA), which is part-funding the development with part of a £99m Grant of pounds which was awarded to the council in 2019.

The development will have a variety of home sizes including 2 blocks of 5 storeys of 1 to 3 bedroom apartments and 4 bedroom houses.

Hill Group is appointed as the main contractor for the project. The new homes to rent at Northolt Grange will count towards the council’s target to deliver thousands of new truly affordable homes to rent in the borough by 2026.

Tell us what you think about housing

Residents are being invited to have their say on ambitious new council plans to tackle the affordable housing crisis. The consultation on the council’s draft housing strategy aims to listen to residents and community groups to ensure their priorities are represented.

Councilor Peter Mason, leader of the council, said: “Working with the people of Ealing is essential as we look to make our borough a fairer place to live, and now we want to gather your views on our new plan to tackle the housing crisis. We already have one of the strongest housebuilding records in London and we want to continue this hard work, delivering the truly affordable homes our residents need and helping to build communities full of pride, identity and purpose across the 7 our cities. “.

“A safe, secure and affordable place to call home”

Councilor Shital Manro, cabinet member for good growth and new homes, said: “It’s great to see work starting on new affordable homes for Northolt. The affordable housing crisis has led to the highest number of applications for emergency housing to the council as people are immediately at risk of homelessness. Every resident deserves a safe, secure and accessible place to call home. These new homes will allow local people to continue to live in their communities in thriving new neighbourhoods.”
