Uber driver who made £10,000 in a month shares his secrets

An Uber driver has pulled off the remarkable challenge of amassing over £10,000 in just one month. Shakur Jama, a 26-year-old driver from East London, embarked on this ambitious journey to demonstrate the potential of the hard graft.

Starting his quest on June 21 and ending on July 21, Shakur pocketed an impressive £10,216. He only allowed himself three days off during the entire month and logged an average of 12 hours behind the wheel each day.

His smart approach included avoiding busy areas during rush hour and capitalizing on big events like the Euros. Shakur said, “I wanted to do something that would inspire people, especially young people like me. Since I started, I’ve had lots of messages from other people saying it helped them realize what’s possible.”

Before hitting the road for Uber and Bolt, Shakur cut his teeth as a delivery driver for Ocado and Hermes, now renamed Evri. Once he had enough driving experience under his belt, he jumped at the opportunity to become a tour driver at the tender age of 22.

Shakur took a total of three days off during the month and most of his days were 12-hour shifts

Reflecting on his previous career, Shakur said, “While working as a delivery driver, I started having conversations with the drivers and wondered how they were able to support their families. 17 So I took it and started from there.”

The strategy that propelled Shakur toward his 10,000-pound goal wasn’t all that different from normal. However, it required him to put in long hours and stick to a meticulous plan.

Shakur revealed, “I would always try to get up really early, ideally starting the day at 6:30. I have done trips around London and sometimes a bit beyond the M25 but not often.

“In the early hours I would try to get trips to and from the airport because they pay well and the trip is actually worth the time without the traffic. However, when it came to rush hour in the morning, I stuck to several local tours of the city.
