There is an update on Sheffield United’s early signing

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has provided an update on Sheffield United’s signing of League One player of the year Harrison Burrows.

The transfer saga continued several times after the hesitation caused by the Blades’ proposed takeover allowed other clubs to reach a potential deal. Leeds United, Birmingham City and Preston North End have all reportedly shown interest at various levels in the player, however it has been revealed that Sheffield United have managed to get their house to get the deal over the line.

Responding to a message on X officially known as Twitter, MacAnthony provided an update on the current situation surrounding the deal;

“Just to be clear: we accepted the official offer on Sunday, the player passed his medical on Wednesday, signed a long-term deal, signed our forms and now we’ve gone to the buying club to send/announce them officially. This is the process and how it works. Luck”

This takes the deal firmly out of the League One side’s hands and places it with Sheffield United, with the player effectively sold pending final paperwork.

Can Peterborough United go again?

Peterborough United are masters of buying and selling, with many clubs up and down the EFL looking to envy their approach. They are able to secure the signing of high-potential assets with low value, give them a platform to develop and then sell them on for a huge profit, allowing the club to often punch well above its weight.

On paper, losing all these stars would devastate a League One club, but MacAnthony’s Posh are capable of doing it year-on-year and still competing at a high level. If Ivan Toney is sold this summer, it will look even more like their strategy is paying off with a sell-on clause that should boost the coffers even more.
