The hospital where a kinky doctor stuffed drugs up a patient’s bottom without consent to be sued for hundreds

Cornwall’s main hospital could be sued by hundreds of patients who had drugs inserted into their bottoms without their consent by a crooked doctor. A class action lawsuit is being prepared by two law firms that represent some of the victims of the pervert Iuliu Stan. More than 200 people may have fallen victim to the Romanian doctor who was dismissed when he worked at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

Dr Stan, who worked at Treliske between October 2015 and September 2020, subjected patients to unnecessary anal examinations without their permission and inserted drugs into their rectums. Some of the allegations against Dr. Stan involve children.

On up to 200 occasions, he prescribed and administered drugs which he inserted into patients’ rectums, failed to obtain informed consent from patients and failed to offer alternative drugs.

A Doctors’ Tribunal report, which was published in February, highlighted significant failings in Dr Stan’s treatment of patients, including a pattern of disturbing behavior which was determined to be sexually motivated. At the time he was working in the trauma and orthopedics team at Treliske.

One of his victims, who is suing, said they were in hospital after sustaining injuries in a road accident when it is alleged “Dr Stan failed to obtain consent to administer the pain reliever Volteral rectally and did not managed to arrange a companion. to be present”.

After several incidents were reported, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) made a referral to the General Medical Council and Dr Stan faced an independent medical tribunal which concluded in February. The court decided that up to 40 male patients over a period of five years were “preyed” by the Romanian citizen.

Earlier this month, parents in Cornwall discovered their children may have been victims of the perverted doctor – when they got the news in the post after the RCHT wrote to many parents to advise them their children could be among Dr Stan’s victims. Gary Walker, partner and abuse specialist at Enable Law, which is acting on behalf of a number of patients affected by Dr Stan, said at the time that the letter was likely to be the first time many people had heard that they or their children could were victims of possible sexual crimes.

Law firm Thompsons Solicitors, which is seeking to sue Dr Stan’s employer, RCHT, said that on the back of the letter sent by RCHT, many other patients had contacted them about filing a lawsuit against the NHS trust.

Matthew Jones, solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors, which has offices in Bristol and Plymouth, said: “The scale and seriousness of Stan’s alleged misconduct is deeply concerning.

“Based on the evidence and patterns of behavior highlighted in the tribunal report, we believe there could be hundreds of alleged victims who suffered under his care. The patients who were affected deserve answers and we are pleased that the police have now launched a criminal investigation into this case.”

A spokesman for the law firm added: “We do not know Dr Stan’s current whereabouts. The legal action now under way would be brought against his employer, which is the NHS Trust.”

An RCHT spokesman said: “Due to ongoing inquiries we cannot reveal specific details, but we can confirm that we have written to a number of Dr Stan’s former patients. We work with protective services and the police, and patients have been given points of contact where we can tailor support to their individual needs.”
