Arne Slot gives a post-game update on Curtis Jones’ injury

The midfielder was withdrawn after 30 minutes at the Acrisure Stadium and replaced by Trey Nyoni.

Arne Slot later confirmed that the decision to drop Jones was taken out of caution and the head coach hopes the No.17 will still feature in the club’s US tour.

He said: “I think it’s too early to tell (how bad it is). Maybe he could have played on, but I think maybe you could see he wasn’t 100%.

“In a friendly game, with so many days in our tournament, it was best to get him out. Hopefully he can recover very quickly, but we have to wait and see.

“We hope he recovers very quickly so we can see him in the next games.”

Jones spoke on Thursday of his enjoyment of working under Slot in the early weeks of pre-season and how keen he is to play a key role for Liverpool in 2024-25.

Slot added: “It’s always a shame if he has to go out after 25 minutes, half an hour. And before that it was clear that he was not completely free.

“It was unfortunate because he had a really good two weeks in training so I was looking forward to seeing him in the game, but unfortunately he had to come out.

“The good thing about it was we brought in someone who impressed me for the 45 minutes to an hour he played after that.

“That was the positive thing for Curtis to go for Trey, but of course it’s a shame for Curtis that he couldn’t play.”
