SAM Burgess could not say for sure whether Paul Vaughan passed his head injury assessment during Warrington Wolves’ win at Wigan Warriors.

Perhaps reassuringly, however, he insisted the prop was “absolutely fine” after his side’s dominant 40-4 win at the Brick Community Stadium.

With his side in a commanding position, Burgess suddenly had two problems while full-back Matt Dufty was booked for a tackle on Liam Marshall, meaning a nervous wait for the Match Review Panel’s findings from Monday.

At the same time, Vaughan was carried off the field for an HIA, the failure of which would have ruled him out of the clash with Hull KR next week.

With James Harrison already set to miss the game through suspension, it’s a potential problem Burgess could do without.

“I don’t know yet,” Burgess said when asked in the post-match press conference if Vaughan had passed his HIA.

“He’s really good there, but we thought he might have had a bump on his head.

“I think he’ll be fine. He looks good.”

There was another concern for Jordy Crowther, who was returning from a setback in his recovery from the ankle injury sustained during the Challenge Cup final.

The forward limped off in the second half, but Burgess insisted it was out of an abundance of caution and unrelated to the problem that has plagued him for nearly two months.

“I was told it was more that he kicked up,” he said.

“It was more of a precaution – I didn’t see the risk at the moment. I was in control of the game so I rested it.”
