Leicester’s third consecutive campaign in the Barclays Women’s Super League ends at home this weekend, facing the Reds for the fourth time this season.

It’s been a tough run for City, who have picked up just two points in their last six WSL matches, with those draws heading into Villa Aston back in March before Sophie Howard overturned a one-goal deficit last time out against West Ham United.

In fact, their last win in any competition came against Liverpoolwhen the two teams met in the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, but while the Foxes will be looking to end the season on a positive note, they have already achieved the highest number of points in the top-flight and secured safety , with Bristol City’s relegation to the Barclays Women’s Championship confirmed.

City’s last game at Filbert Way saw a record crowd of over 6,000 watch a tight affair against Manchester Unitedand Saturday’s hosts will be hoping the fans turn out in their numbers again to cheer them over the line.

Liverpool Women

Liverpool head to the East Midlands in red form.

Liverpool have been in stellar form towards the end of this season and currently sit in fourth place, three points ahead of Manchester United, who host Chelsea on the final day.

Winning 11 of their 21 games so far and losing on just five occasions, head coach Matt Beard has worked wonders for the Merseyside club, who only won promotion back to the First Division in 2020.

Norwegian striker Sophie Haug returned the most goals this term with six, most recently finding the net in a 4-3 upset at Prenton Park; beating Emma Hayes’ Chelsea, who are currently chasing Manchester City for the title.

Matt Beard

Matt Beard won three titles during his time on Merseyside.

Matt Beard has won as many games in charge of Liverpool as he has lost, with a respectable 42% win rate, since his appointment as manager in the summer of 2021.

With previous spells at Bristol City and West Ham United, the 46-year-old returned to where it all began and won three titles during his two spells at the Reds; winning the Women’s Super League in 2013 and 2014 before lifting the championship trophy on their way back to the big time two seasons ago.

Jutta Rantala

Jutta Rantala’s brace over Liverpool sent Leicester into the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Despite Liverpool’s impressive form, the Foxes head into the match as favorites based on previous meetings, having won five from seven, which includes two wins from three this year.

Aimee Palmer sent the Foxes on their way to a 2-1 win over the Reds in the early stages of the Continental Tires League Cup before Liverpool took the points in the reverse WSL match; Melissa Lawley and Marie Höbinger cancel Missy GoodwinGoal of the season.
