The warning of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because tourists taking photos in certain areas could be arrested

The Foreign Office has listed a number of things tourists need to remember when heading abroad, from passport rules to crimes to be aware of. And now they’re warning photo-taking tourists to think before they shoot.

Government officials state that there are certain areas in Greece that you cannot take photos of. Failure to follow these rules could result in tourists being arrested and potentially prosecuted.

Under the section “using cameras or approaching sensitive locations”, they warn: “It is illegal to approach or take photos or videos of military installations, vehicles or buildings.”

It adds: “Authorities will arrest and possibly prosecute anyone who does this. Border areas are also militarily sensitive. If you visit such areas, do not take photos or videos”.

The warning comes as British tourists heading to the tourist hotspot have been given an urgent warning as the European country sees a rise in Covid cases due to the new FLiRT variant.

The National Public Health Organization, EODY, reported a significant increase in hospital admissions, with 669 new Covid-19 patients admitted between 8-14 July 2024.

There are currently no Covid-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travelers entering Greece. However, if you’re headed there soon, it’s worth checking it daily in case this changes.
