Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of promotion from the Championship in 24/25 have been revealed

Sheffield Wednesday begin their 2024/25 campaign with a home game against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle.

Sheffield Wednesday play Plymouth Argyle in their Championship opener on August 11.

Danny Rohl leads the Owls in his first full season at Hillsborough and will enter the new campaign with a new first-team squad.

Sheffield Wednesday have already signed nine new players this summer, bringing in Ben Hamer, James Beadle, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Nathaniel Chalobah, Svante Ingelsson, Jamal Lowe, Olaf Kobacki and Charlie McNeill.

Many are backing the Owls to not only beat the slump next season, but potentially become a dark horse in the race for the top six.

There is certainly a feel-good factor about the club, but how do the bookies rate Sheffield Wednesday’s chances in the 2024/25 Championship season?

Sheffield Wednesday can be the dark horses of the Championship under Danny Rohl

We only need to look at the second half of last season and how Sheffield Wednesday fared to get a rough idea of how they might fare next season.

The form table for the last 25 games had Sheffield Wednesday in 8th place. Now, with a better first team and Rohl having more Championship experience, a top six finish looks achievable.

However, expectations must be managed. Rohl will proceed with caution and, above all, he hopes to keep Sheffield Wednesday clear of relegation in 2024/25.
