Carvalho DECISION made, £13m TARGET moves and Man Utd want former Red

Here’s all the latest Liverpool transfer news as the Reds look for their first signing of the summer. There are updates on Fabio Carvalho and academy star Fabian Mrozek, while a former defender is the exciting Manchester United rival.

LIVERPOOL COMES TO FABIO CARVALHO’S DECISION

Liverpool do not want Fabio Carvalho to leave the club permanently, even though he was on loan last season.

There is a strong chance in pre-season that Carvalho will stake his claim in the first-team squad after failing to do so under Jurgen Klopp in two seasons.

A spot could open up for Carvalho because of the way Arne Slot is building his squad, but it’s up to him to grab the chance with both hands in the US pre-season tour.

According to Football Insider, the club are certainly not willing to let him go long-term, even if he doesn’t perform in pre-season.

However, another loan move could be on the cards, according to the report. The Portuguese youth international thrived at Hull City in the second half of last season after previously struggling at RB Leipzig.

DEAN HUIJSEN AGREES TO REMEDY PREMIER LEAGUE

A Premier League club have agreed a £15m verbal deal that rules out another transfer target from Liverpool. Dean Huijsen is heading to Bournemouth.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Juventus centre-back, who performed admirably on loan at Roma last season. However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Huijsen will move to the south coast, subject to a medical.

“Dean Huijsen at Bournemouth, here we go!” wrote Romano of X. “Verbal agreement in place for €18m deal plus sell-on clause for Juventus.

“Huijsen has agreed a long-term contract at Bournemouth, subject to a medical. Juventus intend to bid for Jean-Clair Todibo as soon as Huijsen’s deal is signed.”

With Liverpool yet to announce a summer signing, another target of theirs has now been snapped up.

MAN UTD INTERESTED IN FORMER RED NECO WILLIAMS

According to a recent report, Manchester United are considering a move for former Liverpool defender Neco Williams this summer.

The Wales international graduated from Liverpool’s academy after initially joining the Reds in 2007, making 33 appearances for the club as they won the Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup.

However, Liverpool cashed in for £17m in 2022 when the young defender joined Nottingham Forest.

According to HITC, Forest will have to drop a significant interest in Williams this summer.

West Ham United have already seen a player-plus-cash bid rejected for the full-back, with Forest insisting the young talent is not for sale.

However, their resolve may be tested in the coming weeks, with the report claiming he has “attracted attention” from European giants AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen, both of whom could offer Champions League football.

But Man Utd, Tottenham and Newcastle United are also believed to be tracking Williams as the window progresses.

FABIAN MROZEK SEAL SWITCH LOAN

Liverpool have confirmed that academy goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek has joined Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna on a short loan after signing a new contract extension with the Reds.

Mrozek penned a new deal with Liverpool before making the temporary move to Scandinavia, with the 20-year-old securing the first senior move of his career to date.

The loan will expire in January 2025, but Brommapojkarna are believed to have the option to extend the deal should Mrozek make a positive impression.

The Polish stopper joined the Reds in 2020 and is yet to make a senior appearance, although he did feature on the bench during six first-team games last season.

He also made 13 appearances in Premier League 2, keeping five clean sheets, as Liverpool finished the 2023/24 campaign in eighth place.

ALISSON TRANSFER ACTIVATED NABIL FEKIR DEAL

Former Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has revealed how Nabil Fekir’s failed move to Anfield helped the Reds sign a current legend.

The former Lyon attacking midfielder was incredibly close to joining Liverpool in 2018. Fekir even completed a medical ahead of a £53million switch.

But the deal collapsed at the last minute, with Fekir blaming his agent for the breakdown during a recent interview.

Liverpool’s decision not to sign the France midfielder allowed them to sign Alisson, Achterberg told The Football Historian Podcast.

“If you had signed Fekir, then there was no money to sign Ali,” Achterberg admitted.

“So we were lucky that that deal fell through and then I said, ‘Okay boss, we’ve got to be quick now because Chelsea definitely want to sign Ali.’ They will sell (Thibaut) Courtois to (Real) Madrid, so we have to do it before and that’s what happened.”
