Manchester United vs Arsenal predicted line-up for USA Tour opener

Manchester United kick off this summer’s US pre-season against Arsenal, here’s our predicted XI for the match.

After two pre-season games against Rosenborg and Rangers, the competition now steps up a notch with Premier League rivals Arsenal awaiting Manchester United in Los Angeles.

Erik ten Hag has a strong squad to choose from, bolstered by the return of several Euro 2024 players.

Some exciting young talent has also been included in the squad for the game, which means we’re likely to see more great kids get a chance to perform.

So as we get closer to the game, here’s how we’ve predicted United will line up against Arsenal.

How Manchester United could line up against Arsenal

It’s United’s first real challenge of the summer and, like last summer, it comes against Arsenal. With several players back from knocks and also from their Euro 2024 involvement, here’s how the Ten Hag lines up with his 29-man United squad to choose from.

Andre Onana

In goal, there is little debate that Andre Onana will start, although we would like to see Radek Vitek also start after how impressive he was against Rosenborg.

This being Onana’s second season at United, we expect him to be much improved, with a stronger defense that can help.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Playing for his Manchester United career, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future looks dubious at best, with Noussair Mazraoui a target.

Wan-Bissaka is the only right-back in the tournament, but in training clips, it looked like Victor Lindelof lined up at right-back.

Lenny Yoro

Leny Yoro is already the star man – as Rasmus Hojlund labeled him – in United’s defense and after his impressive debut we are excited to see more from him.

For Yoro, as many minutes as possible in the preseason will be useful to help him grow a rapport with his teammates.

Jonny Evans

Along with Yoro, we think Ten Hag will stick with Jonny Evans after his solid outing last weekend.

Harry Maguire has yet to feature, so it would make sense to go for the more suitable option from minute one.

Sam Murray

With Tyrell Malacia back at Carrington and Luke Shaw on holiday, Sam Murray is likely to start against Arsenal, as he has done in both friendlies so far.

Murray is clearly now favored by Harry Amass given the age difference, but it would not be a surprise to see Amass get the nod.

Casemiro

With United’s search for a new defensive midfielder underway, Casemiro continues to feature for the Ten Hag’s side and is in line to start here as well.

Scott McTominay is also back and could be an option, but it’s hard to see Casemiro being dropped here.

Toby Collyer

Toby Collyer has already been impressive throughout pre-season, with Ten Hag among those to impress.

Collyer is quietly but surely playing his way to a role next season and as things stand we imagine a competitive debut is next month.

Amad Diallo

After scoring a wonderful goal against Rangers that was reminiscent of Bukayo Saka against Switzerland, Amad Diallo is a shoo-in to start here.

His conclusion last season and the way he started pre-season should cement his place as first choice right-back, at least if Alejandro Garnacho is used there.

Mount Mason

Mason Mount is quietly having a really encouraging pre-season, building his confidence and match fitness after a poor opening campaign.

Mount assisted Amad’s goal against Rangers, and with Bruno Fernandes still on holiday, it makes sense to start here.

Marcus Rashford

After missing out against Rangers with a knock, Marcus Rashford should return against Arsenal as he looks to build his confidence ahead of next season.

Erik ten Hag signaled his confidence in Rashford in his pre-match press conference and, if we had to make a prediction, it seems smart to assume he’ll be back to his best.

Rasmus Hojlund

Returning from a dismal Euro 2024, Rasmus Hojlund will be keen to improve on his tally of 16 goals last season during his second campaign for United.

With Ethan Wheatley on tour, we imagine Hojlund will be thrown straight back into the XI to face Arsenal so he can start preparing for the Community Shield in a fortnight’s time.
