I had afternoon tea at a posh hotel in Bath and felt like I was in Bridgerton

I’m probably not the only one who, when I think of Bath these days, Bridgerton quickly springs to mind. The hit Netflix series has many of the city’s Georgian stone buildings as its backdrop, so being invited into one of these stunning buildings in the historic city felt exciting.

But I wasn’t going to any building; I was going to afternoon tea at Bath Priory, a 5* hotel along Weston Road. Tucked away in four acres of gardens and terraces, the first thing that struck me about the hotel is how peaceful it felt despite being so close to the city center (a five-minute drive, a 30-minute walk).

The staff were friendly and polite, accommodating my request to stay half an hour without a problem (rush hour traffic). We were ushered out onto the terrace overlooking one of their gorgeous gardens and immediately felt much more at ease after a busy day in this quintessentially British environment.

We started with the tea menu, getting to sample all the different ones on offer which was a nice touch. Shortly after our drinks, the afternoon tea arrived and looked truly stunning, with a lot of attention clearly paid to the presentation.

While the spring onions made the egg sandwich a little different from what you might expect, the coronation chicken one was very flavorful; strong in curry flavor and with raisins that bring a little sweetness.

We both enjoyed the sausage roll which tasted fresh as well as the salmon sandwich which was delicate. Moving on to the cakes, my absolute favorite was the gin and lime macaroon.

I find macarons can be very heavy, often disappointing, but certainly not this time; this was delicious, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. We were also big fans of the fresh strawberries and cream pastry cases; but I guess you can’t go wrong with such a delicious combination.
