The New York Jets sign former Ohio State cornerback Kendall Sheffield

Kendall Sheffield has a new NFL home in the Big Apple.

With training camps opening across the NFL this week, Sheffield signed with the New York Jets on Saturday.

A fourth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Sheffield spent three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He started 20 games in his first two seasons in Atlanta, but fell down the depth chart and played only sparingly in 2021 after missing time with an injury.

Sheffield did not play in a game during the 2022 season while spending time with the Houston Texans (injured reserve) and Dallas Cowboys (practice squad). Sheffield then played in five total games with the Tennessee Titans (two games) and the San Francisco 49ers (three) in 2023.

On the Jets, he reunites with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, who was an assistant and defensive coordinator in Atlanta during Sheffield’s first two seasons with the Falcons.

He becomes the fourth former Ohio State player on the Jets’ roster, joining wide receiver Garrett Wilson, tight end Jeremy Ruckert and defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes.

Sheffield played two seasons at Ohio State, recording 75 tackles, two interceptions, 17 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 28 games with the Buckeyes.
