Chansiri will fear Sheffield Wednesday until 2024/25

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri could now have a scare in the 2024/25 season.

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is slowly winning back the trust of the fans after what has been a very impressive summer transfer window so far.

There have been positive changes both on and off the pitch this summer, with reported improvements to some of the club’s facilities as well as nine signings for manager Danny Rohl to work with.

In their final pre-season friendly on Friday, Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 with Werder Bremen, coming from two goals down to end their pre-season tour of Austria and Germany on a high.

The 2024/25 Championship season is fast approaching. Sheffield Wednesday host Plymouth Argyle on August 11 in their first game of the new season, kicking off what many expect to be a much improved Championship campaign for the Owls.

But with their potential success next season may come a particular fear for Dejphon Chansiri.

Dejphon Chansiri will take care of Danny Rohl’s interest after compensation changes

Last season and this summer, Rohl drew interest from several championship rivals.

Sunderland have been interested in Rohl for a while. Hull City were also linked with Rohl before Rohl signed a new three-year contract with Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer.

But before Rohl signed his new contract, it was revealed that any club wanting to poach Rohl from S6 would have to pay compensation of £5m or £10m to take Rohl and his back team at that time.

During Rohl’s contract talks with Chansiri, it was claimed that Rohl’s new contract would mean changes to Rohl Sheffield Wednesday’s compensation, suggesting that the figure would be reduced.

Dejphon Chansiri must have a backup plan for Sheffield Wednesday

If Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday perform well next season, then we may see the inevitable interest in Rohl again.

If the Owls get off to a good start then come the October break, when initial leadership firings are often made, Rohl may become hot property.

Chansiri will certainly have that on his mind and so he must have some sort of backup plan in case a club pays Rohl out of his Sheffield Wednesday contract.

Although Rohl is committed to Sheffield Wednesday and the long-term project he is undertaking, nothing is ever guaranteed and Rohl may have his head turned if a team with far more resources comes calling.

For now, however, Rohl will focus on his side’s remaining pre-season friendly against Leganes next week.
