by Joshua Robinson –

Details of the proposed routes for the first phase of a new West Yorkshire’s mass transport network were released on Wednesday, July 17.

People across the region are now being invited to have their say on the proposed route options that will connect central and South Leedsand Bradford v Leeds. The first stage of the mass transit network aims to connect St James’s Hospital South Leedswith another line starting from Bradford city center to Leeds city centre.

Leeds and Bradford were chosen as hubs from which to develop West Yorkshire’s mass transport network as they are the most concentrated population, business, leisure and retail centers in the region.

  • All potential first-round options for Leeds line run close to White Rose Centerwith two route options also running close by Elland Road. Some of the other places that the proposed route options are close to include Leeds General Infirmary, The South Bank, Holbeck and Beeston.
  • The Bradford Line will connect people between Bradford city center and Leeds city centre with the proposed route options running close to areas such as Wortley, Armley, Pudsey, Thornbury, and Laisterdyke.

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Our region is a powerhouse, a vital economic force for Britain. Our diverse mix of businesses and a growing population are fundamental ingredients for a successful economy. We cannot improve connectivity, inclusion, fight climate change and grow our economy without mass transit. Mass Transit will help transform the way we do business, increase productivity and drive growth in West Yorkshire.”

West Yorkshire Combined Authority want to hear the views of as many people as possible – a public consultation, open to everyone, started on Monday 15 July and will run until Friday 30 September.

Feedback from members of the public will help identify the benefits or any issues with the mass transport route options for Leeds and Bradford, improve the proposals and help decide which of these options will go ahead to create a Leeds line and a Bradford line .
