Johnny Depp joins Jeff Beck for surprise performance in Sheffield as Amber Heard trial jury deliberates

Johnny Depp turned up to perform with Jeff Beck in Sheffield on Sunday (May 29) following closing arguments in his $50 million defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.

Jurors began deliberating on Depp’s lawsuit against his ex-wife last week after lawyers for the actors made their closing arguments in Fairfax County District Court in Virginia.

Depp is suing Heard for alleged defamation over an op-ed he wrote in 2018 in The Washington Post, titled: “I spoke out against sexual violence—and faced the wrath of our culture. That has to change.”

Although Depp was not named in the op-ed, he claims her allegations made it difficult for him to land roles in the film.

Heard is suing her ex-husband, accusing him of orchestrating a “smear campaign” against her and describing his own lawsuit as a continuation of “abuse and harassment.”

Following the six-week process, Depp – who started his career as a musician and founded the band The Hollywood Vampires with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in 201 – and Beck performed the 2020 collaboration “Isolation”, a reworking of a song by to John Lennon. 1970. After deliberations began in the high-profile civil trial, which was broadcast live, jurors will have a three-day Memorial Day weekend before resuming on Tuesday, May 31.

If the jury finds that Heard defamed him, Aquaman star will be required to pay Depp damages for lost earnings — though the court may recommend that he be awarded more or less than the $50 million he’s seeking.
