Prince William is taking the Queen’s sister Camilla off the royal payroll after nearly 20 years

Prince William has taken the Queen’s sister Camilla off the royal payroll after nearly two decades, according to the estate she inherited after King Charles was crowned British monarch.

The Prince of Wales, 42, has decided not to re-hire Annabel Elliot as the estate’s interior designer, as revealed in the Duchy of Cornwall’s latest Integrated Annual Report.

William received the 700-year-old estate and the title Duke of Cornwall on his father’s accession following the death in 2022 of Queen Elizabeth II. The estate is designed to provide income for the heir to the throne.

Elliot, who was brought on the payroll after Charles and Camilla’s wedding in 2005, was the chief designer of the royal estates for nearly 20 years. She worked on projects including luxury Duchy of Cornwall cottages, offices and nurseries, for which she was paid a commission and reimbursed for associated purchases.

In 2022, Elliot had been paid 19,625 pounds ($25,264) in fees and commissions and 12,316 pounds ($15,855) in reimbursements, according to that year’s report. The most recent report, however, said that nothing had been paid to Elliot “in respect thereof” for 2023.

Earlier this week, sources told The Telegraph that the decision not to rehire Elliot, 75, “did not reflect on her work”.

The annual report, published earlier this week, also revealed William’s annual salary, noting that the royal earned $30.4 million in the 2023-24 financial year, his first full year under his new title as Duke of Cornwall.

That salary funds both his and Kate Middleton’s public, charitable and private activities, according to the Duchy of Cornwall website, which notes that William pays income tax on his annual income. He does not have access to his capital value.
