Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp confirms key new injury boost for Manchester United’s revenge mission

Jurgen Klopp expects to have Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo back for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The Japan international has made a big impression at Anfield so far since his £16.2million switch from German club Stuttgart in the summer as part of a midfield overhaul that has already seen the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch.

Endo has already made 34 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this term, although he sat out at Anfield on Thursday night as the Reds faced a tougher test than expected against bottom club Sheffield United, winning in the behind 3-1 through goals from Mac Allister. and Cody Gakpo after Darwin Nunez’s early opener was canceled out by a Conor Bradley own goal, returning to the summit of the Premier League in the process and restoring their two-point lead over Arsenal with eight games to play . Manchester City are a point further back in third place.

The 31-year-old picked up a knock during Sunday’s 2-1 win over Brighton, but Klopp expects him to be back in the fold for this weekend as his side seek revenge against their fiercest rivals theirs after an agonizing FA 4-3. Extra-time defeat in the Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford last month.

“That is my information (that he will be fit),” Klopp said of Endo after the hard-fought win against Sheffield United.

“I rested him today. I had a feeling there might have been a chance for tonight, but if we leave him out, then there’s a big chance for Sunday. I hope that hasn’t changed.”

Liverpool brought back Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones against the Blades, both enjoying impactful second-half cameos off the bench after injury.

Mohamed Salah was visibly unhappy to be substituted in Thursday’s 1-1 draw, although Klopp insisted afterwards that such substitutions changed the game.

“Our overall game until I think we made changes wasn’t great,” he told TNT Sports. “We have to admit that.

“It’s difficult, we had such a low block but you have to do better. I’m really pleased for Cody (Gakpo) who came on and was incredibly good on the ball, scored a great goal. Robbo (Robertson) good, Harvey (Elliott) good, Curtis good.

“They were very helpful and that’s the way things are; you have to change games from the bench when you need to and so I’m very happy with that.

“Super positive the boys are coming. Curtis back, Robbo back, Cody not out but a really good game that he needed. No one injured, the recovery has already started.”
