The “RIDICULOUS” offer Olmo, Gordon DECISION

Here’s the Liverpool FC transfer roundup for Sunday, July 28, with updates on Sepp van den Berg, Dani Olmo and Anthony Gordon.

The summer transfer window has been open for some time and while the first signing of the Arne Slot era has yet to be announced, the Reds continue to be linked with reinforcements – as well as sales – ahead of the new season.

Van den Berg suggests a turnaround

All summer it looked like defender Sepp van den Berg would be among those sold by Liverpool, amid their own defender’s admission of wanting first-team football and a reported price tag of £16m.

However, after being handed a start in the Reds’ pre-season friendly win over Real Betis, the defender admitted he could eventually stay at the club.

“I’m still a Liverpool player. I really like it here,” he told Sky Sports. “It was a very nice pre-season. Of course, a new coach, like a new era begins, a fresh training, a new style of play. I really like it.

“For me, it’s just about playing time and right now I’m getting it here. So I’m happy right now, but like I said, it’s still early days. You never know what can happen, but for me the most important thing is the game.

“If I can do it here, there’s no better place. It’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest, clubs in the world, so if it’s here, it’s my dream.

“But for me, the most important thing is to play, so I’ll see what happens.”

Liverpool tipped to pursue interest in O’Riley

Last week, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed Liverpool were “well briefed” on the situation surrounding Celtic star Matt O’Riley and have now been given the go-ahead by club legend John Barnes to pursue a deal.

On the back of an incredible 18-goal season, the 23-year-old is also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, while Atalanta have seen three bids rejected for the midfielder.

With Celtic firm on O’Riley, while they remain determined to get top dollar for the Denmark international if they want to sell him, Liverpool have been prompted to enter the bidding war by Barnes – even though the midfielder he wouldn’t necessarily start for the Reds.

“Liverpool have Szoboszlai and MacAllister who are midfielders and if (Stefan) Bajcetic is used as a six, should (O’Riley) take those two? I doubt it very much,” Barnes told Tipsbladet.

“But when you talk about having a good squad, he could be a player who comes in and completes what we have.

“I don’t know if he will come in and start, but he will be a welcome addition to the squad. If we can get a good player with that quality at a fair price, I don’t see why not.”

Kubo truth

It’s been a big start to the week for Liverpool fans amid claims the club were busy finalizing a deal to sign Takefusa Kubo from Real Sociedad.

However, Anfield Agenda’s David Lynch has revealed that there is absolutely nothing to such claims, doubling down on what fellow journalist Lewis Steele previously said about the transfer rumour.

“Yeah, so Kubo, I got a very cold reception on that when I checked with Liverpool sources. I don’t think he’s going to be a target,” Lynch said.

“There’s certainly no truth to those reports that a deal is close to being agreed or anything like that. Maybe someone that Liverpool looked at, but absolutely no truth that a deal is close, so take them those with a pinch of salt.”

Olmo moved to be rejected

Liverpool have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo following his outstanding displays for Spain en route to Euro 2024 glory.

With the relationship between the two clubs having seen the Reds sign Ibrahima Konate and Dominik Szoboszlai while sending out Fabio Carvalho on loan instead, it looks like this could work to their advantage.

Particularly in terms of negotiations, as Olmo’s reported €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract has expired, the Bundesliga side are willing to let the 26-year-old leave if a suitable offer arrives.

But if Liverpool are keen on a deal, they will need to ensure their offer is taken more seriously than Barcelona’s after Spanish network SPORT revealed that the payment structure of La Liga’s €60m offer is a concern for Leipzig.

According to the report, €40m was a base fee to be paid in €10m installments over the next four January windows, with the rest being offered as bonuses: €5m for every La Liga title won and the Champions League (maximum two titles for each competition). ).

Leipzig are said to view the offer as “ridiculous” and “surreal”, meaning it is highly likely to be rejected outright.

Gordon will be offered a new deal

Newcastle United have made a decision on Anthony Gordon and could end any rumors linking the forward with Liverpool this summer once and for all.

Linked to return to Merseyside – 18 months after leaving Everton – only for talks between the Reds and Magpies to break down due to a combination of the latter’s asking price and insistence on bringing in Jarell Quansah in a swap deal.

Although, journalist David Lynch has suggested that Liverpool could yet rekindle their interest in the England international before the summer transfer window closes.

In fact, CaughtOffside claim that the Reds have begun renegotiations with their Premier League rivals for the 23-year-old, but have been told the winger is not for sale as he remains a crucial part of Eddie Howe’s plans ahead of the new campaign.

The same publication also stated that Newcastle are keen to extend Gordon’s contract until the summer of 2029, with talks over a renewal set to take place soon.
