Barcelona are changing their Luis Diaz transfer stance to fulfill ‘dream of a lifetime’ ahead of rebuilding Liverpool

Luis Diaz from Liverpool

Luis Diaz continues to be heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer.

Diaz joined the Reds in January 2022 in a potentially £49m deal from Porto, with Liverpool beating Tottenham Hotspur to his signature. The Colombia international was instrumental in winning three major trophies for the club, scoring 24 goals in 97 appearances.

However, this season Diaz has scored just eight goals in the Premier League and 13 in all competitions. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent weeks, with Barcelona apparently a potential destination.

A new report from Mundo Deportivo has claimed that Diaz remains the player Barcelona are determined to sign to bolster their attacking options. Reports elsewhere recently claimed the La Liga giants felt a deal for Diaz was unlikely due to Liverpool’s potential price tag.

However, this latest report claimed that Barcelona are preparing to make a move to try and bring Diaz to Camp Nou in order to fulfill a “lifelong dream” for the player. That said, the Spanish club are also said to have lined up alternative targets, including Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Porto star Pepe and RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, should a move fail to materialise.

Diaz recently opened up about his future at Liverpool, where he stated that he is happy at the club. The Colombia international went on to explain how he has improved as a player during his time at Anfield.

“I’ve grown a lot,” Diaz said in a recent interview with Liverpoolfc.com. “From the beginning of my career until today, I feel that with the passing of days, years, living every experience in every different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, it leaves you with a lot of lessons.

“You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is, I’m very happy to be here. Great years ahead for the club, no doubt about it.

“Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100%, always stand out on the field, which is what I came (here) to do. I am always grateful to God for every opportunity.”
