Man taken to hospital after ‘medical episode’ on East Lancs road

A man in his sixties was taken to hospital this afternoon after suffering a medical episode and crashing his car.

Police were called to East Lancashire Road in Norris Green at 1.53pm to reports of a crash involving a blue Citroen Picasso. The accident happened between Townsend Avenue and Lower House Lane.

The driver of the car, a man in his sixties, is said to have fallen ill at the wheel and climbed onto the grass verge that separates the two East Lancs roads. The Citroen would have been the only vehicle involved.

The police gave first aid to the man and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, an air ambulance attempted to land in the area but failed and had to leave without landing.

Police closed the road in both directions after the accident and it was reopened at 2.45pm.

A police spokesman said: “Officers were called to East Lancashire Road at 1.53pm after reports that a blue Citroen Picasso had mounted a grass verge. The road was closed and police administered first aid to a 60-year-old man who had suffered injuries. a medical episode The man was taken to the hospital in an ambulance”.
